Trauma Informed Care Training Session 2

    August 28 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

In July, the New Neighbors Coalition hosted Danielle Bernas, the Director of Refugee & Immigrant Center for Healing at Jewish Family Services in Buffalo for the first of a 3-part training series on trauma-informed care that focuses on newly-arrived immigrants. Due to the generosity of Jewish Family Services, the Coaltion was able to provide this opportunity to volunteers and community members free of cost.

Danielle spoke on the importance of culturally responsive care when working with new neighbors, as well as some additional context regarding the immigrant experience. She highlighted the importance of setting boundaries as volunteers and addressing our self-care needs, while still engaging with new neighbors in a way that is empathetic and compassionate.

If you missed the training or just want a refresher, the video is linked here and Danielle’s PowerPoint is here (Culturally Responsive Practice for Refugee Mental Health Services.) Danielle also provided us with some useful information regarding social integration, which can be found here.

The second training session is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28th from 5-6:30pm in the St. Luke’s Undercroft at 410 N. Main St, Jamestown, NY. Registration for the event is found here.
