Pride Sunday and Juneteenth
June 14 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

St. Luke’s is pleased to welcome Bishop Eugene Sutton on Sunday, June 14 at the 10am service, as our guest preacher and celebrant as we gather to mark both Pride Sunday and Juneteenth. The convergence of these observances creates a meaningful day of worship, learning, and reflection as we celebrate God’s liberating work in human history and in our own lives. Bishop Sutton currently serves as Senior Pastor at Chautauqua and as an Assisting Bishop in the Diocese of Washington. He previously served as Bishop of Maryland, where he became widely known for his thoughtful leadership, pastoral presence, and commitment to justice and reconciliation throughout the Church and wider community. The convergence of Pride Sunday and Juneteenth invites us into an important and holy conversation. Both observances call us to reflect on human dignity, freedom, belonging, and the ongoing work of creating communities where all people are recognized as bearing the image of God. They remind us that liberation is not simply an event in the past, but an ongoing call to truth, healing, and faithful action. In addition to preaching and celebrating at worship, Bishop Sutton will lead our Adult Forum at 9am and speak on the work of reparations. Throughout his ministry, he has engaged deeply in conversations surrounding racial healing, historical truth-telling, and the Church’s role in confronting the enduring consequences of injustice. Reparations work extends beyond financial considerations; it also involves memory, relationship, accountability, and the difficult but hopeful work of repairing what has been broken. This will be an opportunity not only to hear from a gifted preacher and teacher, but also to engage questions that continue to shape both the Church and society today. We encourage everyone to join us for as we work to foster God’s reconciling work in this world.
