NNC: Responsible Information Sharing and Rumor Prevention Training

We will discuss how to respond responsibly when hearing or sharing sensitive information that may affect marginalized communities. Together, we will review how misinformation can spread quickly during uncertain moments, how rumors can unintentionally cause fear or harm, and what well-meaning community members should do instead. We will touch on the fact that all community members share a responsibility to verify information before passing it along, especially when that information could impact people’s safety or sense of security. Attendees will learn how to pause, confirm information through trusted sources, ask follow-up questions upon receiving information, and approach social media posts with an analytical eye to avoid repeating unverified or piecemeal reports. The training will focus on staying grounded in accurate information, communicating with care, and supporting trust and safety over spreading rumors. As community members, it is our collective responsibility to be compassionate, trusted sources of information to support the safety of all our neighbors. Please use this Microsoft Form to RSVP to either session: https://forms.office.com/r/8nMvuCduRY. Trainings will take place in the St. Luke’s Undercroft at 410 N Main Street in Jamestown, New York, with two opportunities to attend, Tuesday, March 10 at 6:30pm and Saturday, March 14 at 2pm.
