SUMMARY:Annual Parish Picnic
DESCRIPTION:On June 1st\, we’ll forgo our regular 10am service for a 10:30am service at Camp Onyasha\, followed by our annual Parish Picnic. We’ll celebrate Holy Communion and enjoy a feast at a potluck lunch that you provide. We might even find someone brave enough to take the plunge and get baptized in the Lake! Lake activities will also be available following lunch time—including swimming and kayaking. \nTo help you decide what to bring to the picnic try this:\nLast names: A – I – a “main dish” or salad;\nJ – Q -snacks or appetizer;\nR – Z – dessert / fruit \nAlso\, bring along your own table service: plates\, plastic-ware\, serving utensils and something other to grill\, if you desire. St. Luke’s will provide: hot dogs\, hamburgers and buns; ketchup\, relish & mustard; lemonade and coffee; and extra plates\, plastic utensils\, and cups.

SUMMARY:Pride Sunday & Jamestown Pride
DESCRIPTION:Join St. Luke’s over Pride weekend in community celebration and worship over the weekend of June 7th & 8th. On Sunday\, June 8th at the 10am service\, St. Luke’s will celebrate our fifth annual Pride Sunday service. This year\, Pride coincides with the Church’s celebration of Pentecost. This is a fitting alignment\, as Pentecost is the day when the Church commemorates the Holy Spirit’s outpouring on all believers: young and old\, men and women\, Jews and Gentiles\, and people gathered in Jerusalem from a vast variety of nations. Following the lead of the Spirit\, St. Luke’s works to see and nurture the gifts of all people\, regardless of sexual orientation\, gender identity\, or walk of life. Gavin Card\, who was one of St. Luke’s youth ten years ago and is now beginning the discernment process for ordination\, will be the day’s guest preacher\, and will reflect on the ways the church has been a source of safety\, strength\, and support in his spiritual and life’s journey as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. For the occasion\, St. Luke’s children and youth\, as well as faithful adult volunteers\, have assisted in making special rainbow dove decorations for the church. \nFor parishioners who would like to celebrate Pride through community celebration and acts of service: Jamestown Pride is seeking volunteers for the week’s events. Sign up at https://tinyurl.com/JamestownPride2025Volunteer. \nAs in previous years\, St. Luke’s will be staffing a children’s activity table at the Jamestown Pride Festival Event on Saturday\, June 7th\, from 9 am to 1 pm. Traditionally\, St. Luke’s youth have staffed this table – but this year we are opening the opportunity up to adult volunteers\, as well. Interested volunteers can contact vestry member Tiffany MacCallum (tmaccallum626@gmail.com) or clergy (Luke or Jessica) to sign up to volunteer and learn more. \nSince the first Jamestown Pride festival event in 2021\, St. Luke’s has been a committed community supporter of Jamestown Pride. Jessica\, through her work supporting local LGBTQ+ youth\, has been Jamestown Pride’s Coordinator for the past two years. This has given her invaluable experience in practicing community outreach and leadership\, as well as nonprofit administration: Thanks to the in-kind and administrative support of St. Luke’s\, Jamestown Pride has become an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit\, with the vision to create more events year-round and a network of community support.

SUMMARY:Service of Lament
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, June 27 at 5pm in the Chapel\, the New Neighbors Coalition program at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will host a Service of Lament in observance of World Refugee Day. The United Nation has designated June 20th as World Refugee Day in honor of the millions of refugees around the globe who have been forced to flee their homes. While the Coalition’s commemorations in the past have been celebratory\, this year with the Federal Government’s termination of the US Refugee resettlement program and indiscriminate immigration enforcement\, it seemed more appropriate to create time and space for public lament.\n\nThe program will consist of an interfaith service\, led by the Rev. Luke Fodor and Mr. Sam Qadri\, followed by an opportunity to write letters to local elected officials advocating for those who have been displaced both worldwide and in our own communities.
