SUMMARY:Dupre's Station of the Cross
DESCRIPTION:Marcel Dupre (1886-1971) was organist at St. Sulpice in Paris\, which housed the largest of the symphonic organs built by Aristide Cavaille-Coll. He was also a frequent performer and organist composer in the United States as well as France. He especially\, loved the “Wanamaker” Organ in Philadelphia and often improvised on it. In 1931 he improvised and then completed the score for “Le Chemin de la Croix.” (Stations of the Cross). In Catholic Churches\, you will find on the walls of the church depictions of these 14 stations which refer to the last hours before Jesus crucifixion. These include “Jesus is condemned to death”\, “Jesus meets his mother”\, Jesus Falls to the ground” “Jesus is Crucified” and “Jesus is laid in the tomb.” These meditations were inspired by a poem for each station written by Paul Claudel. On April 1\, 7:00 P.M. Ron McEntire will be performing the work including the recitation of the poem between each station. The newly renovated St. Luke’s organ is especially equipped to do justice to this magnificent moving work. All are invited to attend.
