SUMMARY:Confirmation Sunday
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, May 24 at the 10am service\, St. Luke’s will celebrate the Rite of Confirmation. Confirmation is a moment to claim the promises of Baptism as your own\, to deepen your relationship with God\, and to open yourself more fully to the work of the Holy Spirit. It’s not about certainty or perfection—it’s about willingness. Whether you’ve been part of the Church for years\, are returning after time away\, or simply feel a quiet curiosity\, you are welcome to explore this step. If you’re interested\, please reach out to the Rector to begin a conversation and discern whether Confirmation might be right for you.

SUMMARY:Pride Sunday and Juneteenth
DESCRIPTION:St. Luke’s is pleased to welcome Bishop Eugene Sutton on Sunday\, June 14 at the 10am service\, as our guest preacher and celebrant as we gather to mark both Pride Sunday and Juneteenth. The convergence of these observances creates a meaningful day of worship\, learning\, and reflection as we celebrate God’s liberating work in human history and in our own lives. Bishop Sutton currently serves as Senior Pastor at Chautauqua and as an Assisting Bishop in the Diocese of Washington. He previously served as Bishop of Maryland\, where he became widely known for his thoughtful leadership\, pastoral presence\, and commitment to justice and reconciliation throughout the Church and wider community. The convergence of Pride Sunday and Juneteenth invites us into an important and holy conversation. Both observances call us to reflect on human dignity\, freedom\, belonging\, and the ongoing work of creating communities where all people are recognized as bearing the image of God. They remind us that liberation is not simply an event in the past\, but an ongoing call to truth\, healing\, and faithful action. In addition to preaching and celebrating at worship\, Bishop Sutton will lead our Adult Forum at 9am and speak on the work of reparations. Throughout his ministry\, he has engaged deeply in conversations surrounding racial healing\, historical truth-telling\, and the Church’s role in confronting the enduring consequences of injustice. Reparations work extends beyond financial considerations; it also involves memory\, relationship\, accountability\, and the difficult but hopeful work of repairing what has been broken. This will be an opportunity not only to hear from a gifted preacher and teacher\, but also to engage questions that continue to shape both the Church and society today. We encourage everyone to join us for as we work to foster God’s reconciling work in this world.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Rumi
DESCRIPTION:This year\, in observation of World Refugee Day\, New Neighbors Coalition will host an Evening with Rumi on Thursday\, June 18th at 6pm in the St. Luke’s Undercroft.\nThis community gathering will reflect on and explore some of the 13th-century poet’s most influential work. We will focus primarily on the first story of Rumi’s Masnavi\, Book I\, using the Nicholson translation\, as well as a couple of his shorter poems. Rumi’s words have traveled across borders and through generations\, speaking to feelings of longing and connection for millions of people across cultures and languages. This intimate conversation will explore themes of resilience and belonging\, while recognizing that the experience of displacement\, and the search for home\, is one that has shaped human history for centuries. A translated PDF of the first story from the Masnavi\, and one of Rumi’s shorter poems from Divan-e Shams can be found for anyone interested in reading them ahead of the event here. No preparation or prior reading is needed. This will be an informal\, guided conversation centered on selected passages from the first story of Rumi’s Masnavi\, Book I\, with space for shared reflections and discussion. Light refreshments will be served. For questions\, please contact New Neighbors Coalition Director\, Momina Di Blasio\, at momina@stlukesjamestown.org.

SUMMARY:World Refugee Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Join St. Luke’s and New Neighbors Coalition for a Refugee Sunday service on June 28th at 10am in the St. Luke’s Church in honor of World Refugee Day. The service will include a special prayers\, songs\, a sermon and world flag procession. World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees around the world. It falls each year on June 20th and acknowledges the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. This year\, World Refugee Day June 2026 9focuses on the right of every human being across the globe to seek safety and protection. 2026 marks the 75th anniversary of the United Nations’ Geneva Convention of 1951. This convening led to a multinational treaty that was enacted primarily in response to the horrors perpetuated against Jews during the Holocaust. The Convention recognizes that humans have the right to flee from persecution\, and that it is the responsibility of the nations within the treaty to grant protection to those who seek it. This year’s World Refugee Day centers around the importance of standing in solidarity with refugees\, both around the globe\, and in our own communities. This year’s Refugee Sunday service will invite us to reflect on what it means to be in solidarity with those who are seeking safety\, and to honor the journeys and resilience of our immigrant neighbors. Together\, we’ll explore ideas of belonging and connection and consider what it means to embrace our shared humanity across language and culture.
