SUMMARY:Community Messiah Sing
DESCRIPTION:The community is invited to celebrate the Christmas season by joining the Festival Choir at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and special guests in a community singing of Handel’s Messiah on Sunday\, December 28th at 7pm in the Church.\n\nThis well-loved local event has become a tradition for many in the Jamestown area as a way to keep the season alive during the week between the Christmas holiday and New Year’s celebrations. The performance is free to the public – both singers and audience members.\n\nWritten by George Frederic Handel\, the Messiah has become a favorite and familiar Christmas tradition for many. First performed in 1742\, the work recounts the story of the life of Jesus as told in the Bible. Often called “timeless and Inspirational” the piece has become one of the worlds most treasured selections.\nPhillip McMullen\, Director of Trinity Masterworks Choir in Fredonia\, will be the conductor for the program and renowned local organist Brian Bogey will accompany on St. Luke’s spectacular Aeolian Skinner Organ.\n\nThe program will include Part 1\, often called the “Christmas portion” of the piece\, as well as the Hallelujah Chorus. Scores will be provided\, although singers who have their own score are invited to bring them. Guests are welcome to sing along or to just come and listen to the music. All singers are invited to a rehearsal for the community choir on Saturday\, December 27 from 3-5 PM at St. Luke’s. Call time on Sunday\, December 28 for the choir is 6:15 PM

Our service will be followed by a procession to AIDS Memorial Park at East 3rd Street and Potters Alley. We will celebrate the new placement of the historical plaque from 1998 in the newly renovated park.\n\n\nRed Ribbons and Red Glow Sticks will be provided at the event. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our annual celebration of Veterans Day. We begin the service at 11:11am on Tuesday\, November 11 in the church to commemorate the session of the Great War. We remember those who have served by lifting our voice in prayer and song. \nOur speaker this year is Kurt Gustafson\, a lifelong parishioner at St. Luke’s. His parents are Richard and Ruby Gustafson of Lakewood. Kurt is a graduate of Southwestern High School\, Jamestown Community College\, SUNY Buffalo and the University of Toledo College of Law. \nKurt served in the U.S. Marine Corps on active duty between 1991 and 1999. He served as a Judge Advocate in 29 Palms\, California and as an Officer Selection Officer in Hyattsville\, Maryland where he achieved the rank of Captain. After serving in the Marines\, Kurt accepted a job in the Chautauqua County Attorney’s Office as an Assistant Country Attorney. After 19 years in the County Attorney’s Office\, Kurt accepted a position as a Labor Relations Specialist with Erie 2 BOCES. Kurt is the President of the Southwestern School Board and serves on the Metro YMCA Board of Directors and the Camp Onyahsa Advisory Committee. Kurt and his wife Margie are the proud parents of Nicholas and Ryan and are soon to be grandparents.

DESCRIPTION:This month’s Church of the Wild is being co-opted by our Kayak Mass– so we have one last time to get out on the water. While we will not be walking on the water like Jesus\, we will take the opportunity to commune with nature\, God’s creative abundance and each other. We will gather on Sunday\, August 17th at 4 pm at the Cassadaga Boat launch in the middle lake (on Dale Road just outside the gates of Lily Dale). Please let the Rector know if you plan to attend.
