October 31 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Every year, St. Luke’s concludes Stewardship Season with “Joyful Sunday,” observed on the last Sunday of October. This year, Joyful Sunday falls on October 31st. Taking inspiration from Halloween, Saint Luke’s will take advantage of this unique calendar line-up to JOYFULLY celebrate the lives of the saints (whom we commemorate on November 1, All Saints’ Day).
We invite parishioners, young and old, to dress up as their favorite friends of God.
In the New Testament, the word “saints” describes the entire community of followers of the Way of Jesus. We all bear the word of God within us. From the very early church, followers whose faith and lives were particularly inspiring began to be described as “Saints,” with a capital S. On All Saints’ Day, November 1, we remember with gratitude those Saints whose lives and actions we look to as models for our own.
If you’re looking for some inspiration, St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church has compiled an expansive (though not exhaustive) list of saints. Or, if you need a little help pulling a costume together, feel free to talk to Jessica Frederick — we have a generous costume closet full of all kinds of fun clothes and props. And hagiography — the stories of the lives of the saints — happens to make St. Luke’s seminarian’s heart sing
